Another E Team Story

An older man came to every church service in a large twin city parish. He didn’t say much and stayed in the background. He seemed to come to everything. Finally, a friend and I asked if he was a member of all these groups. He said no and didn’t know all that was going on.

“Why come?” we asked. He said he had been a difficult husband and father, “but when I understood that Jesus hung and died for me personally, I couldn’t do enough.” We later prayed for him while he was in the hospital. At the funeral, his wife told us he had a drinking problem and had a hard life. But when he grasped the truth of Christ’s merciful sacrifice for him alone, “he couldn’t do enough.”
